A game jam game:
What I did:
- Game playable with no controller, only a microphone
- Used visual scripting to code the game with construct2
- Figuring out how to make a shooter with limited controls
- Worked on silly physics a little bit.
- Made in 48 hours among other games.
PiouPiou the game let the player fly and shoot, in control of a crazy bird. They play by yelling (for shooting) and blowing (to turn).
The game was at a point supposed to be an alternative installation where you would have been on top of a cute bird, and would blow in its ears to turn, and yell to encourage it to shoot !
Due to a lack of time, it could not be finished as an installation but has been designed to be playable with any mic at home, as a game that can be a good way to vent the player's frustration.
Main problem with this game is players who are too shy to yell.
At the beggining the bird was supposed to love metal music and the player was asked to sing metal music as they played,
But quickly we realized that a lot of people found it awkward to sing metal music in front of others, so we made it so that players are free to do what they want with the mic and experiment with how it works. They can just say onomatopoeia for shooting sounds, or just roleplay and tell the bird to shoot, or even sing along with the hardcore music, if they want to.
When the bird crashes on a wall, the player get one last chance with a really difficult physic-based gameplay, where their bird is burning, but they can still manage to win. This turned out to be a great way to encourage people to give everything they have in the mic and be less shy.
